Javits Frimpong Shot In Suspected Bullying Incident

A New York City teenager, Javits Frimpong, died after being shot in the stomach in New York City on Thursday, according to NBC New York. The 15-year-old was fatally shot in the Bronx on his way to school close to his home near East 171st Street and Third Avenue in Claremont. Video of Javits running away from someone wearing all black captured him turning around before falling to the ground. According to CBS News, he later died at the St. Barnabas Hospital.

The NYPD is reportedly searching for two or three suspects, and the shooting is believed to be tied to a bullying incident.

Father Says Son Was Bullied

Javits’ father, Thomas Frimpong, says that he believes his son was shot after being bullied, according to FOX 5 New York. He told the outlet that Javits complained about being bullied at school. He alerted school officials, and subsequently, two boys were suspended for a week. Frimpong thinks his son was shot for revenge, and he wants those responsible to turn themselves in.
“I will tell them to give themselves to the police,” he said. “I don’t think they are going to go free for killing an innocent child. For killing an innocent child.”
He added that the principal told him about the shooting. In addition, the grieving father told ABC7 that the two students who were suspended over the bullying were the aggressors.

Javits Moved From Ghana For A Better Life

Frimpong also told ABC7 that his son had moved from Ghana one year ago. Javits’ mother is still in Ghana, but her husband said he brought his son to New York in hopes of giving him a better life. He spoke with FOX 5 New York just after leaving his son at the hospital.

“I lost him… I don’t know what to do now,” he exclaimed. “I don’t know what to do… I don’t know what to do.”

A candlelight vigil will be held on Friday evening for Javits.
