The gathering, held on Thursday, April 4, honored the nonviolent leader’s life and legacy.

The late minister’s son, Martin Luther King III, and his wife, Arndrea Waters King, attended the ceremonies. Their daughter, Yolanda Renee King, was also present.

In Atlanta, Dr. Bernice King, the activist’s only surviving daughter, participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the King Center. Her father and mother, Coretta Scott King, are laid to rest there.

Both siblings publicly spoke about the legendary leader.

Martin III said their father’s death was “perhaps the most traumatic event in our lives.”

He added, “Dad was not just a dreamer. He was a doer. And his team moved our nation in a very forward direction.”

Additionally, King III questioned why the United States hadn’t made more progress in the last 56 years.

After a reporter asked Bernice if she could still feel her father’s presence, she said, “All the time.”

She chuckled, “I probably feel my mother’s more, to be honest.”

“Our parents were exemplary when it came to agape love and power,” King’s daughter added. Bernice explained sustaining love within the family has helped them move forward.

Additionally, Reverend Al Sharpton made an appearance on MSNBC. He stated Trump and his supporters have “removed the moral movement that Dr. King stood for.”

Sharpton added, “If there is an anti-King, it’s Donald Trump. Because many of the things that Dr. King fought for is and has been destroyed by this Supreme Court.”

The reverend stated Trump’s shenanigans have gutted what King and countless other activists fought passionately for.
