Joe Budden Shrugs Off Removal of Twitter Verification

Joe Budden Joins Patreon As Head of Creator Equity

A fan recently noticed that Joe Budden was no longer verified on the social media platform, Twitter. In the height of the digital age, the blue check verification is a badge of status. If you have the blue check, it supposedly separates you from the rest of the pack. Those who had notoriety prior to the dominance of social media put very little emphasis on the blue check. One of those people happens to be the former rapper and now famed podcaster, Joe Budden.

After losing his blue check, the JBP Network founder could care less about digital verification. He responded to a fan on Twitter, who was curious about it.

“What happened to your blue check,” they asked. “Doesn’t matter lol…. i was verified long before Twitter,” said Budden.

Prior to Twitter, Joe Budden was a rapper and respected lyricist. Known for his Grammy-Nominated hit, “Pump It Up” he later became a member of Shady Record’s group, Slaughterhouse. While it is peculiar as to why the blue check was taken away, Joe Budden is unbothered by the move. Therefore, his supporters should be as well.

He recently scored a deal with Patreon as the new Head of Equity, where JBP followers can consume exclusive content in addition to the podcast.

The United States military launched an airstrike in Syria on Thursday, that targeted groups that were allegedly affiliated with an Iran-backed militia.

Defense officials said this move, which is believed to be the first known offensive military operation carried out by the Biden administration, was in response to multiple rocket attacks against Americans in northern Iraq earlier this month.

“At President Biden’s direction, U.S. military forces earlier this evening conducted airstrikes against infrastructure utilized by Iranian-backed militant groups in eastern Syria. These strikes were authorized in response to recent attacks against American and Coalition personnel in Iraq, and to ongoing threats to those personnel,” said Pentagon press secretary John Kirby.

Kirby called these strikes a “proportionate military response” and explained that “It was conducted together with diplomatic measures, including consultation with Coalition partners. The operation sends an unambiguous message: President Biden will act to protect American and Coalition personnel. At the same time, we have acted in a deliberate manner that aims to de-escalate the overall situation in both eastern Syria and Iraq.”

Kirby added that the strikes destroyed multiple facilities located at a border control point used by a number of Iranian-backed militant groups, including Kait’ib Hezbollah (KH) and Kait’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS).

On this date in 2001, Slum Village producer Jay Dee changed his name to J Dilla and released his debut solo album entitled Welcome 2 Detroit. The 16 track BBE distributed LP featured otherwise unknown artists from Dilla’s hometown such as Elzhi and Phat Kat among others.

Although it is a solo album, on several cuts, such as the first single “Pause”, Dilla takes a backseat and lets others command the mic. Dilla also sings the lead vocals on his cover of Donald Byrd’s “Think Twice”, which also has Motown crooner Dwele playing the keyboard and singing background vocals.

Salute to the late beat making icon J Dilla and the rest of his BBE family for bringing Hip Hop such an unforgettable classic!

Netflix Diversity Study Shows Progress Made On Inclusion, But More Work To Be Done

usc netflix

Words by: Sentwali Holder

Streaming giant Netflix has published a detailed inclusion report from Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative on the diversity makeup of their original content. The study itself was paid for by Netflix and they are now making it public as well as extend the study for the next 6 years.

They’ve also announced an ambitious Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, a $100 million dollar fund to be globally distributed over 5 years. This fund will focus on building talent pipelines for underrepresented communities.

The study details how Netflix’s U.S. original content from 2018 and 2019 performed across 22 inclusion indicators. The detailed findings show that Netflix is making strides comparatively to other studios and the industry of Hollywood by and large. They also show they have a lot of necessary changes to improve on as they inch closer to real inclusion.

“I rarely have anything positive to say, so this report was a bit of a reprieve from my typical rollout of information,” said Dr. Stacy L. Smith, who is founder and director of the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at a Netflix symposium for the study on Thursday.

Of the 22 key indicators, 19 showed year-to-year improvement. Netflix is tracking ahead of the industry in hiring women of color directors in both films and series. There is also gender equality in leading roles, another improvement as compared to other major studios. Unfortunately, not all racial and ethnic groups have seen increases in representation, specifically with considerable gaps in content representation for Hispanic/Latino, Middle Eastern/North African, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities.

The report considers Netflix’s Strong Black Lead “more than a marketing slogan — 21.4% of Netflix films had Blacklead or co-leads while 10.8% of Netflix series featured a Black lead or co-leads.

Here are key findings from the study:

  • 52% of TV and film leads/co-leads were women and girls
  • 31.9% of TV and film leads/co-leads were from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups
  • 23.1% of film directors were women
  • 16.9% of film directors were from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups
  • 29.8% of show creators were women
  • 12.2% of show creators were from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups

Thursday’s Netflix symposium panel also featured Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s Vice President, Global Series; Scott Stuber, Netflix’s Vice President, Global Film and two Netflix directors: as Tigertail’s Alan Yang and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’s George C. Wolfe.

After the study’s release and publishing, Ted Sarandos wrote in a blog post: “Taken together, we believe these efforts will help accelerate the change that Dr. Smith has so long advocated for – creating a lasting legacy of inclusion in entertainment.  We are still in the early stages of a major change in storytelling – where great stories can truly come from anywhere, be created by anyone, whatever their background, and be loved everywhere.  And by better understanding how we are doing, we hope to stimulate change not just at Netflix but across our industry more broadly.”

Steve Harvey Shares His Thoughts on Lori Harvey and Michael B. Jordan’s Valentine’s Day Celebration

Steve Harvey Shares His Thoughts on Lori Harvey and Michael B. Jordan's Valentine's Day

Steve Harvey weighs in on Lori Harvey and Michael B. Jordan’s extravagant Valentine’s Day.

Steve Harvey shared his thoughts on his stepdaughter, Lori Harvey’s relationship with Michael B. Jordan on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Thursday evening.

But before he said what he thought of the actor, he had to make one thing clear. “He is a nice guy, yeah, but he is not the sexiest man alive to me at all,” the comedian said, referencing the actor’s given the title of 2020’s Sexiest Man Alive by People.

Of course, Steve Harvey gave the title to himself. “All these people I’m paying for. Hell, if that ain’t sexy, what is?”

He continued, “I’ve never been attractive, I knew that. That’s why I had to come up with these damn jokes, but this kid—I like him.”

The host praised the new couple and recalled their extravagant first Valentine’s Day. “He rented out, like, the whole aquarium for your daughter,” Jimmy Kimmel said.

“Yeah, well, good luck, homie,” Steve responded said. “You know, Valentine’s come every year, I don’t know if you know how this works or not, but I don’t know how you gonna top that. But good luck, partner.”

He added, “I mean, it was really nice what he did, you know, I’m happy for him. He’s a great guy, met his father and everything, but uh—that’s was a lot. I don’t know where he’s gonna go from here, so hopefully, you know, maybe he’ll make Creed 4, 5 and 6.”

Michael B. Jordan also gifted Lori Harvey a Hermes stock in addition to the private, romantic dinner at the aquarium. Do you agree with Steve and think this was too much for a new couple?

SOURCE SPORTS: Seth Curry Lets The Mavericks Know They Made a “Bad Business Decision” Trading Him Away

USATSI 15319304

Philadelphia 76ers’ Seth Curry has no problems letting everyone know that the Dallas Mavericks made a mistake trading him away.

When asked whether facing the Mavericks on Thursday night provided any extra motivation, Curry chose to take the high road, but he does believe Dallas’ front office made a mistake by shipping him to Philadelphia during the offseason.

“Nah, never nothing personal, man,” Curry said. “I got a lot of respect for a lot of those guys over there. I just think they made a bad business decision, but it happens all the time, you know what I’m saying? It is what it is.”

Curry scored 15 points as his 76ers beat Dallas 111-97 on Thursday night, so it was a nice opportunity to show up his old team, who could really use his skill set today.

Luenell Reveals That She Went to Jail For Robbing a Bank Before Becoming a Famous Comedian

Luenell Reveals That She Went to Jail For Robbing a Bank Before Becoming a Famous Comedian

Luenell is set to star in the upcoming highly-anticipated sequel for Coming To America and spoke about working closely with her former enemy, Leslie Jones.

“I was quite content with me and Leslie’s beef. I was fine with it okay, but also knowing that we had to work together in a film that’s going to be epic, I came to the set with the mindset that I’m going to put everything aside. I’m gonna speak, we’re gonna make history this is gonna be amazing,” she told The Jasmine Brand.

Luenell is known for telling it like it is so you know this conversation took a twist.

She revealed that she served four months of a year-long sentence after robbing the bank that she worked for.

“I knew that the bank that I was working at was about to fail and being the hustler that I thought I was, I said well I’m gonna get some of this money before this bank goes to hell. So I robbed the bank – embezzlement if you want to call it that. I got away with this for over 10 years then I finally got popped by the feds and I went to a jail. I did four months and 18 days on a year bid at Twin Towers.”

Luenell is currently 61-years-old and had a long career in Hollywood, so she sure has a lot of wisdom to share.

“A biography is possibly in the works. We’re at the beginning stages of that. Writing a book has definitely been something that I…I have half of me that wants to do it and half me knows I can’t do it if I did it the way I want to because I too want to name names, I too want to not protect the oppressors. I do want to tell it but I have family…and I don’t want to bust up my family.”
